Apple Pie Smoothie

Smoothie tip: smoothies make a great guilt-free dessert option, too! Swap out versions like this one for the traditional apple pie which will save you from the extra fat and sugar.

Apple Pie Smoothie

Gluten-free/Nut-free

Serves: 1

  • 1/2 c non-fat greek yogurt
  • 1 c apple (I prefer to use unsweetened sliced sautéed apples* which I keep on stand-by in the fridge for smoothies & morning oats but applesauce works just as well)
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I used Sunwarrior vanilla)
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 tsp apple pie spice
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and purée until smooth (you’ll result in a thicker consistency so add liquid like almond milk if you prefer a thinner smoothie).

*To make sautéed apples: peel, core and slice 6 apples (any variety will work). Add to a medium-sized sauce pan with 1/4 cup of water. Cover pan with a tightly fitting lid and let simmer over medium heat for about 20 minutes until apples become soft and most of liquid is absorbed. When done stir in 1 tablespoon of cinnamon. Allow apples to cool then transfer to a covered jar or container and store in the fridge until ready to use. You can also freeze if not consuming within a few days.
